What is the Gakuran game?

In one line: in a Japanese high school you can socialize, work jobs, play basketball — or throw hands with anyone, anytime.

Gakuran (学乱) is a Roblox Japanese-school roleplay + fighting game by the Gakuran Team (学乱), set in May 2005, Japan, at "Nishikata High." There are no fixed objectives — you create a character, then freely explore the campus, socialize with other players, or enter combat stance and fight. At its core the Gakuran game is an RP + PvP (Battlegrounds / Fighting) Roblox game with a chaotic, fun community. People sometimes misspell it gakura, gakuren or garukan, but the official Roblox title is simply Gakuran.

Setting & credits: the game is set in May 2005, Japan. The current town map is taken from the game Back to School, with credit to map creator Rwdrewz.

ℹ️

Closed-community game: this is a closed community experience — you must join the official Roblox group (and Discord) first before you can enter a server. After joining, you can usually get in within 1–2 minutes.

🏫

Campus stage

A three-floor school, basketball court, music room, coffee shop, convenience store, nightclub and more — the map keeps growing.

🥊

Real combat

Light combos, heavy attacks, blocking, parry and grapple give the fighting genuine depth.

📈

Breakout hit

~7 months in development; concurrent players spiked from 1K to 16K+, and it's still iterating fast.

What does "Gakuran" mean?

The game borrows its name from real Japanese school fashion — and knowing the gakuran meaning makes the 2005 setting click.

A gakuran is the classic Japanese school uniform for boys: a high-collared, button-up black jacket (the gakuran jacket) worn with matching trousers, and historically a peaked gakuran hat. It's one of the most recognizable styles of Japanese school uniform, and the Gakuran game leans into that retro look — which is why Nishikata High feels less like a modern blazer-and-tie campus and more like an old-school one. In Indonesian you'll see it written as "gakuran adalah seragam sekolah," and in Vietnamese as "áo gakuran" — same uniform, same vibe.

🧥

Gakuran vs. blazer

Older Japanese schools used the stand-collar gakuran; many modern ones switched to a Western blazer. The game's wardrobe nods to both eras.

🎀

Sailor fuku & seifuku

The girls' counterpart is the sailor fuku, part of the broader seifuku (Japanese school uniforms) family seen across campus.

🌸

Hakama & haori

For formal or traditional flair, Japanese fashion also includes the hakama and haori — not the everyday gakuran, but part of the same cultural backdrop.

🪪

Naming your character: to match the setting, most players pick authentic Japanese names during character creation. See Characters for how names, ethnicity and height generation work in the Gakuran game.

Gakuran community: Discord & Trello

Because it's a closed experience, the community is where the Gakuran game really lives.

Gakuran is group-locked, so the official Discord and Roblox group are essential — joining the Discord server is how you get server access, follow update logs, and find people to play with. Some players also look for a Trello; while many Roblox games keep a public Trello (Roblox) board for rules and mechanics, Gakuran doesn't currently maintain a stable, consolidated one, so the Discord is the most reliable source. All the official links live on the Sources page.

FAQ

The questions newcomers ask most — see the full FAQ for more.

How do I get into the game?

It's a closed-community Roblox game: you must first join the official Roblox group (usually the Discord too) before you can enter. After joining, wait 1–2 minutes and you're in. See Getting Started.

How to fight in Gakuran?

Press T to toggle combat stance, M1 for light attacks and M2 for heavy. Learn parry timing first. Full controls and how to fight in Gakuran are in Combat.

What happened to Gakuran Roblox? Why can't I find it?

Nothing's gone — Gakuran is a closed-community game, so direct game links often 404 and it can be hard to find. You reach it through the official Roblox group instead. That's usually what "what happened to Gakuran Roblox" really means. Details in Getting Started.

Are there codes or scripts?

No active codes as of June 2026, and there's no code system in the game yet. Avoid any "script" or exploit offers — they're against the rules and unsafe. See the Codes page.

Should I be tall or short?

Tall = more damage and HP but slower; short = faster and smaller hitbox but lower HP and damage. Short builds pair well with high-burst styles (Hikari / Boxing). See Characters.
